Robin Hood Activity Day

Robin Hood – Myths and Legends Outdoor Experience for KS1 & KS2

Bring the legend of Robin Hood to life and let your pupils experience what it was like to live as an outlaw in the woods.
The ancient woodland at Outdoor Elements provides the perfect setting for re-enacting life in Sherwood Forest.

This Robin Hood outdoor activity experience gives children the chance to try the essential skills Robin Hood and his Merry Men would have needed, while supporting KS1 and KS2 history learning, and also the creative writing element of the national curriculum.

Session 1: Archery – Battle the Sheriff’s Men

Children practise Robin Hood’s most famous skill: shooting a bow and arrow.

  • Learn to use real bows and arrows
  • Aim at targets
  • Play themed games to defeat the Sheriff’s men

Session 2: Hideout Building – Create Your Forest Den

Working as a team, pupils build their own woodland hideout.

  • Use tarps, ropes, and natural materials
  • Design a den big enough for their whole gang
  • Add seats, a fire area, and sleeping space
  • Protect the hideout from the Sheriff’s men before the “storm” arrives

Timings:

We are open 9.30am – 4.00pm and we can design a programme to fit your timings within our operating hours.

Please specify your times when making an enquiry.

Session 3: Forest Trail – Navigate Like an Outlaw

Children explore the forest trails just like Robin Hood.

  • Use maps to navigate the woodland
  • Find checkpoints along the route
  • Discover characters from the legendary tales

Session 4: Fire Lighting & Friar Tuck’s Feast – Bread Making

Pupils learn traditional fire lighting and medieval cooking skills.

  • Forage for natural materials for fire lighting
  • Use flint and steel to spark a flame
  • Follow a medieval recipe to bake delicious bread
  • Cook the dough on a stick over the open fire
  • Drizzle with Friar Tuck’s special honey for a delicious finish
