Off-site Fire Lighting

Off-site Fire Lighting

This session takes place in a suitable outdoor space and introduces children to the fundamentals of fire lighting and the triangle of combustion. Working with natural materials and guided by an experienced instructor, participants explore how fire is created, how it is controlled and why it has been essential for human survival throughout history.

The activity also encourages children to think about food, water and shelter as key survival needs. Discussions can link to modern life, comparing our everyday comforts with the experiences of people around the world who live closer to a survival‑based lifestyle. It’s a powerful way to build appreciation, understanding and connection to the natural world and the resources it provides.
