Viking Raiders Activity Day

Viking Raiders and Traders Day – KS2 Outdoor Learning Experience

An exciting, curriculum-linked outdoor activity programme for Years 3–6.

The Outdoor Elements Viking Raiders and Traders Day is a full day of interactive learning split into 3–4 sessions. Working in groups of up to 10, children are guided by our enthusiastic instructors as they travel back 1200 years to experience life in Viking Britain. Set in our ancient woodland, pupils take part in hands on outdoor activities to discover what it may have been like to live like a Viking.

Session 1: Viking Shelter Building – Create Your First Viking Camp

The Vikings invaded Britain from the North Sea. Children set up their first Viking camp using natural woodland materials and equipment brought “from the Longships”. After choosing a suitable settlement location, they build a basic Viking longhouse with a tarp cover and consider how to defend their camp from rival clans.

Session 2: Make Bread Like a Viking – Campfire Cooking

The Vikings who settled in Britain were farmers of animals and crops. In this session, children explore how Vikings cultivated land and grew grains for breadmaking. Using simple ingredients, they make their own Viking bread over a real fire. Once baked, they can drizzle it with honey and enjoy eating like true Vikings.

Timings:

We are open 9.30am – 4.00pm and we can design a programme to fit your timings within our operating hours.

Please specify your times when making an enquiry.

Session 3: Viking Quest – Navigate the Woodland Trail

Vikings were expert voyagers who navigated seas and discovered new lands. Using maps to explore the woodland, children follow a quest to find picture locations and learn about Viking beliefs, Gods, myths and legends that guided them on their journeys into the unknown.

Session 4: The Clash of the Anglo Saxons – Weapons & Defence

Viking invaders were feared for their raids and battles. Children learn about Viking weapons and practise throwing spears at targets. They also experience Anglo-Saxon defence techniques by learning to shoot a real bow and arrows.
